About Us

Bringing The Digital Future Home
City Satellite has been established in the TV and Satellite industry since its incorporation in January 1989.
We are now into our twenty second year of trading and have extensive experience in carrying out all types of installation work, both locally and throughout the rest of the UK.
Whether it be installing a single aerial on a ten foot pole to feed the TV siginal to displays in a garage show room; designing and installing a Satellite/TV distribution system (including the TVs and a Bose SoundDock for each room) in a national chain of hotels or managing up to forty engineers (in two man teams) carrying out digital upgrading to TV systems covering 5,000 points for the largest housing associations and councils in the country over a nine month time frame.
City Satellite is and has always been a family oriented business with Mike Halbert as the Managing Director. His eldest son Adam runs the warehousing and stock control functions while his other son Ben has taken over as Technical Director and manages the retail premises and security and computing aspects of the business. Meanwhile the accounts and payroll are dealt with by his wife Jen and his daughter Samantha.
For All Your Security Needs
With the digital switchover underway in the United Kingdom due to come to an end in 2012, City Satellite realised the need to expand into new markets. With our existing customer base including a number of registered social landlords (councils and housing associations) we began looking into those services that we could offer them – both entirely new offerings as well as options that could tie in with our existing television distribution systems.
We brought on board experienced CCTV engineers to help train up our existing engineers and provide technical support as we moved fully into the new market of security.
With a background in television systems our engineers were already well experienced in the fundamentals of the work and City Solutions has grown significantly; offering the ability to tie cameras into existing television distribution systems allowed our clients access to new options they may not have previously been aware of.
From CCTV market we quickly expanded into access control (door entry systems) and these types of installations now comprise a significant portion of City Solutions’ work load.
City Solutions now provides systems to meet the exact exact requirements of our customers, from single door, key fob entry systems to multiple dwelling video intercomms integrated into IP systems and accessible from across the world.
The Future’s Green
There has been an increasing need for alternative, noncarbon, sources of energy. This has been further propelled by the setting of the UK and European emission reduction targets and the increasing public awareness of the economic and environmental pressures involved in energy supplies.
In January 2010 City Satellite began a research project into the feasibility for setting up a new trading division that would concentrate on the installation of renewable technologies. By the end of the year City Solar was established, initially set up for the purpose of installing Solar Photovoltaic Electricity Systems that qualified for the higher rate of the Government backed clean energy cashback scheme (officially known as the Feed-In-Tariff).
Our initial installation was a small scale commercial system located on City Satellite’s own premises – this served the dual purpose of being a suitable site for our certification inspection as well as giving us an ideal up-and-running system to show prospective customers from panel to inverter to meter.
City Solar was assessed by Elecsa for qualification into the Microgeneration Certification Scheme, the assessment was passed for certification with the inspector commenting that it is ‘a well organised company with a very tidy system’.
